Divisions Require Commitment

Starting and maintaining an ATA division requires a committed group of volunteers. Divisions can collapse if there are not enough volunteers willing to do the work and keep it going. This is often the hardest part of establishing a division.

Steps to Establishing a Division

When these conditions are met, the ATA Board of Directors will review the petition and the bylaws before voting to establish the division as a part of ATA.

Contact the Divisions Committee Chair and the Manager, Membership, Divisions and Chapter Relations LaTisha Henderson, to discuss the proposed division before moving on to the next steps.

Present a formal petition requesting division status to the ATA Board of Directors. The petition must be signed by 50 ATA voting members and 100 ATA associate members.

Present the name of an ATA member with voting status who is willing to serve as the new division's acting administrator.

Present the name of an ATA member with voting status who is willing to serve as the new division's acting assistant administrator.

Present the name of an ATA member who is willing to be a newsletter or blog editor for the division. The division must publish at least two newsletters a year, or a blog with about forty pages of entries per year, and double that is preferred. Newsletters are strictly electronic.

Present the name of an ATA member who is willing to create a website for the division.
